FreePlay (“FreePlay”, “we”, “us”) helps parents and guardians discover playgrounds and free family activities. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why, and your rights under the EU GDPR. FreePlay is operated as a sole operator based in Ireland and is the data controller. Questions? 1. Information we collect
- Account details - your name, email address, a securely hashed password, and (optionally) your town.
- Location - if you grant permission, your device's location (approximate or precise) is used to show nearby playgrounds, local weather and events. We do not keep a history of where you go.
- Photos you upload - pictures of playgrounds you add to reviews or edit suggestions, stored on our servers. Please never upload identifiable photos of children.
- Activity in the app - your favourites, reviews, recorded visits, streaks and HeroScore badges.
- Purchase status - if you subscribe, our payments partner tells us whether your subscription is active. We never see or store your card details.
- Technical data - basic, standard server logs needed to operate and secure the service.
2. Children's privacy
FreePlay is intended for parents and guardians (adults). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children, and we never ask for a child's name, birthday, school or photo. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it promptly.
3. How we use your data
- To create and secure your account and let you log in (including optional biometric sign-in stored only on your device).
- To show nearby playgrounds, activities and weather based on your location.
- To power favourites, reviews, visits and the HeroScore gamification features.
- To send emails you have opted into (such as your weekly digest) and essential account emails (such as password resets).
- To manage premium subscriptions, if you choose to buy one.
4. Legal bases (GDPR)
Performance of a contract (to provide the app you signed up for); your consent (for location access and optional marketing/digest emails, which you can withdraw any time); and our legitimate interests (to keep the service secure and working).
5. Sharing & third parties
We do not sell your personal data. We share limited data only with service providers that help us run the app: Google Maps and MapTiler (maps & location display); Open-Meteo (approximate coordinates for local weather); Resend (opted-in and essential account emails); RevenueCat and the app stores (Apple/Google) to process and verify subscriptions; and our hosting/database provider to store your account and app data.
6. International transfers
Some providers are based outside the EU/EEA (e.g. the United States). Where data is transferred internationally, it is protected by appropriate safeguards such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
7. Data retention
We keep your personal data only while your account is active. When you delete your account, we remove your account, reviews, favourites and uploaded content. Some minimal records may be retained where the law requires it.
8. Security
All data is encrypted in transit using HTTPS/TLS, and passwords are stored only as secure one-way hashes. While no system is perfectly secure, we take reasonable measures to protect your information.
9. Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time.
- You can delete your account anytime from Profile → Delete account.

10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will revise the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
